Kahawa 1893 Coffee, a specialty coffee company founded by Kenyan-born, third-generation coffee farmer Margaret Nyamumbo, celebrates the intrinsic characteristics of Kenyan coffees while empowering the women who grow them.

The Story of Kahawa 1893  

Growing up on a coffee farm, Nyamumbo observed that women supply 90% of coffee production labor but often see little or no financial gain. She went on to study abroad in the U.S. before starting a career on Wall Street, but never stopped thinking about ways to help the women farmers she grew up with.

Nyamumbo founded Kahawa 1893 to share exquisite African coffee with the world and support women farmers through her tipping and scholarship programs.

The company also partners with co-operatives in Kenya, Rwanda and Congo, from which they source beans used in their blends, to further help those that make the coffee trade possible.
